Pressures of work, family and social life led Charlie to the bottle. When he had a drink, he couldn't stop. Over time his drinking got worse. Professional and family life disintegrated. It was only a matter of time before he ended up sleeping rough, drinking cheap cider on Edinburgh's Skid Row. Lotte, a recovering alcoholic with several years sobriety, befriends and helps Charlie on his road to recovery. Charlie finds work as a washer-up in a greasy spoon, develops true friendships, and discovers, for the first time in his life, a degree of contentment. With Lotte he finds true love.
