New Generation author Nick Brown’s cult British horror novel Skendleby has been chosen as the flagship first feature film for new UK-based production company Doctor Rebekah Productions - recently launched during the Marché du Film in Cannes.

Skendleby was first self-published in 2013 through New Generation Publishing - a leading self-publishing service dedicated to helping writers to sell their books - and has since sold several thousand copies through distribution in the UK, US and Australia as well as being available worldwide.

The book tells the frightening story of an ancient evil archaeological curse lurking within the estate of Skendleby Hall. It is the first title in the highly acclaimed Ancient Gramarye Book Series. Other titles in this series include The Dead Travel Fast, Dark Coven and Greenman Resurrection -a final highly awaited volume will be published later this year. Nick was offered a publishing contract with New Generation Publishing in 2016. He is also author of the award winning Luck Bringer series set in ancient Greece during the Persian Wars.

The film version of Skendleby is to be directed by American filmmaker Stephen David Brooks whose previous work includes Cannes Film Festival favourite FLYTRAP from a script written by Nick and his son Gaius of ‘Frame North’, it will be produced by Alexa Waugh.

Doctor Rebekah Productions is the new sister company of the prestigious film festival consultancy agency The Film Festival Doctor. Founded in 2011 it has since represented over 600 highly curated films and earned its filmmakers over 400 awards on the international circuit, from Bussan to Rotterdam and from LA Film Fest to Sitges.

Daniel Cooke, Managing Director of New Generation Publishing, commented:

“Nick is a perfect example of how great writing, when combined with the right levels of marketing support and promotion, can generate strong sales and spark lots of interest when it comes to rights/licensing. A film deal is what most authors can only dream about, but this underlines that anything is possible. Success stories like these really do make our day and inspire us to help even more of our authors to get the recognition that they deserve. We can’t wait to see this terrifying work brought to life on the big screen.”

Nick Brown, Author of Skendleby and the Ancient Gramarye and Luck Bringer Book Series, added:

“Despite being delighted that so many people enjoy the Skendleby books, I never expected a film; I never managed to attract an agent so it’s been pretty hard work. I have to thank a supportive publisher prepared to take a risk on a relatively unknown author and the incredibly talented Rebekah Smith the Film Festival Doctor.”
