How to get a book self-published

Do you feel like you’ve got a book (or two) inside of you? The good news is that there are so many ways now available to help you get that idea out and published for just the right audience.

Self-publishing is easier than you might think, but if you’re at the beginning of your writing journey - or seriously considering writing a novel - it’s common to feel a bit overwhelmed.

Equally, if you’ve got a first draft sitting untouched and have finally decided to dust it off and get it published, your dream could become a reality much sooner than you think.

The self-publishing revolution

There really is no hyperbole in the above sentence: self-publishing really is a revolution, and it’s one you can join today.

One of the best aspects of self-publishing is the easy with which it can be undertaken and the lack of barriers to entry - particularly when you work with a company like New Generation Publishing.

Although many of our authors start off striving for a traditional publishing deal, the chances of that happening are usually incredibly low. By instead getting their book self-published, they gain the experience and exposure they need without giving as much away to a big-name publisher.

When you’re ready to print (or distribute online)…

Once your book is ready to print, there are lots of options these days in terms of getting it into the hands of readers.

For instance, it can still be printed in hard copy, but you may also want it formatted for eBook distribution. There’s a process behind this which needs to be learned or performed by a third party (that’s where working with us makes so much sense!).

We can help with the initial setup of getting a book printed or distributed online. That ranges from the generation of an ISBN number to the intricacies of marketing your book online.

The importance of proofreading

Writing a book is a lengthy, challenging process, and some authors we work with spend every spare moment they have on their computer finishing their book.

Once you’ve written your book and have the first manuscript ready, it’s important to get it proofread by as many people as possible (including a professional copywriter and your friends and family), to help iron out any creases.

You’re too close to your own work, which is why a third-party eye or two will help identify problems with the story arc, flow or more simple stuff. Grammar, spelling and punctation can call be addressed at this point, and you’ll be surprised by how many mistakes you’ve probably made.
