The football ground hopping record stands at 189 days, yet it took author David Asquith slightly longer to complete – over fifty years in fact. This is the story of that journey, visiting the opulent and the impoverished English Football League Clubs that make up the world famous “Ninety -Two. At the centre of the book are those of us who stand this side of the white line, the football fan. It is an odyssey that took half a century to complete, during which time David came to see the supporter as central to the story of our national game. Along the way he marvels at the history, devotion, triumph and humour – not to mention the absurd – in this elegant and witty fans eye view of the world’s greatest league competition and its ninety two members. David Asquith spent his working life in industry, a career that was sandwiched in between an abiding love of the great world of sport. Football, the very English version of this great game, was his first love and led him to visit all ninety two League clubs that make up the English Football League. Thus, the story of this book was born. He still lives in the sleepy Worcestershire town he grew up in and recently celebrated forty years of married life. He has two adult children and two grandchildren.
